After the Second World War, the factory of Frantisek Janecek decided to produce simpler and cheaper two-stroke motorcycles Jawa 100 Rodot and the Jawa Perak model created during the
war. However, a few years later, buyers who had rehabilitated themselves after the devastating war demanded a more powerful motorcycle. And already in
1950, the Jawa plant prepared a 500-cubic-meter engine, which, starting in 1952, began to be installed on the new production motorcycle Jawa 500 OHC .
The abbreviation OHC stood for Overhead Camshaft and meant that the new four-stroke engine had one camshaft, which was located not in
the cylinder block, as in the 1929 model, but in the cylinder head along with the valves. Two cylinders cooled by the oncoming air flow had a total volume of
488 cm3 and produced a power of 26 hp at 5,000 rpm.
The transmission was a four-speed with a foot shift. The Lucas magnetic dynamo, originally installed on this motorcycle, was soon replaced
PAL dynamo-battery ignition with a power of 60 watts. The oil pump provided lubrication of the half-liter unit. A separate 4.5-liter tank was allocated for the oil.
The volume of the gas tank was 16 liters. By the way, the only seat of the motorcycle was attached to it.So the owners of this model could not even dream of a trip in two with a girl

The Jawa 500 OHC suspension was a hydraulic teleseopical fork in front and two shock absorbers in the rear,which had an interesting attachment at
three points.The motorcycle weighed 156 kg, and reached a maximum speed of 135 km / h. The average gasoline consumption, taking into account the engine volume, was quite moderate – 4 liters
per 100 km of travel.
In 1953, the production of the modernized Jawa 500 OHC with an improved engine began: the power increased to 28 hp. At the same time, the weight of the motorcycle also increased
up to 174 kg, which, however, did not affect the maximum speed, which was already almost 147 km/h. Since 1956, the 500 cc model of the Czechoslovak motorcycle has
received a more comfortable double seat. The last Jawa 500 OHC left the assembly line in 1958 – this is how the history of 500-cc serial motorcycles
produced by Jawa ended. Further, motorcycles with similar engines were developed only as single copies.
